Today I've decided to start a new category on my vineri triskaideka blog, one with lots of seo articles. I'm just going on with my quest for content building, which I guess will help me later with the vineri triskaideka contest.. So here it is.
I've recently stumbled upon a quite interesting study about how important is the place google lists you on your targeted keyword.
It is debatable how much more traffic a #1 ranking gets compared to say, a #3 or a #10 ranking.Anyway, those listings “above the fold” on a page (anything higher than #4 or #3 depending on your monitor size and resolution) really do get clicked more than those below the fold. Above the fold is anything displayed on the page before you have to start scrolling downward.
This info is not very important for our vineri triskaideka contest, but when you're doing seo for a real website, you should be interested in this kind of info.
A recent study provides some interesting numbers on the subject of ranking vs. percentage of clicks for that position. This study tracked the number of times people clicked on a listing on Google for a given search query:
First Page:
1st position: 30%
2nd position: 15%
3rd position: 7%
4th position: 5%
5th position: 4%
6th position: 4%
7th position: 2%
8th position: 2%
9th position: 3%
10th position: 5%

Second Page:
1stt position: 6%
2nd position: 4%
3rd position: 2%
4th position and beyond <1%

As you can see, if you aren’t on the first two pages, you might as well forget about getting clicked. When was the last time you went to the third page of a search query versus just starting a new search query? :)

Hello vineri triskaideka guys.
Last friday wasn't as good as I expected it to be. The romanian bac exam was really difficult, and I won't get nearly as good grades as on my oral exams.
Anyway, back to the vineri triskaideka contest. Seems that I've lost the first place for the vineri triskaideka query, in favor of carnacior's entry. If I didn't know that I actually got links from only 4 different websites, maybe I'd be a little bit sad. But I'm really looking forward to the next week, when exams will be over and I'll have more time for seo and this vineri triskaideka contest.
For now I'm quite happy, as it seems my fellow competitors don't know much about seo. Or should I be sad ? :)
Anyway, G seems to love my vineri triskaideka blog. With 21 pages in the index , and the cache of my page changed daily in his index.. What can I say :)
I now got the first reports from Google webmasters too.

Hello vineri triskaideka mates. The day started great for me, as I had my english oral exam at 8 AM, which I passed with an A ( a 10 .. in your face Netrakid :D ). When I got home I ate a little and of course checked my current vineri triskaideka ranking.
I was happy to see that I was the first place holder in the main google.com, and even more pleased to see that all the datacenters showed the same results for the vineri triskaideka query.
So, for now, here is the top 5 :

2 - the online radios guy
3 - the paid domain guy, who decided to make a fun picture blog. That's kinda cool, as you sacrifice lots of vineri triskaideka related content, but it's easyer to get some vineri triskaideka links.

I still can't figure out why my blog's cache looks so messed up, but I've seen that it only looks this way in firefox, in internet explorer everything is ok.

Hello again, vineri triskaideka friends. If you've read this vineri triskaideka blog before, you probably know I've been having some problems with my contest entry.
Let me tell you how things went on. So first, I used the minima blog template, and all went well. I got indexed quickly and landed on the first place when vineri triskaideka was searched. Well, a couple of days later I decided to change the blog theme, and I guess that google thought it was a new vineri triskaideka page, and the old page no longer existed. As you probably know, all blogger blogs have very low code to text ratios, and a change of theme is equal to a dramatic ( close to 90 % ) change in your website. I'm guessing that's why my main page got into the supplemental index.
Yesterday morning, some datacenters pulled my page into the regular index, and also indexed the new page, with the new theme. They also put my blog on my old first vineri triskaideka place.
Sadly enough, yesterday night all the datacenters turned back to the old situation, with my old vineri triskaideka blog indexed page, and back to supplemental.
Today, I can see that some datacenters have indexed 17 pages of mine, but still no change with my index page. So I'm back to waiting, I guess.
Also, some weird shit I can't really figure out is that the cached screenshot that Google takes from my vineri triskaideka entry is really messed up, overlapping all of my blog text on a small piece of online paper :). For now, I can't really see why it does that, but I saw that it captures the vineri triskaideka text corectly, so that's really all I care of.

Paid domain

S-a lansat un nou portal web. Poti gasi aici totul gratuit, fara reclame sau bannere stresante. O galerie foto cu Vedete Sexy , o serie de articole despre culturism cat si cea mai noua muzica si cele mai noi filme. Avem si un blog in care abordam intr-un mod virulent, dar plin de umor, diverse teme sociale din Romania zilelor noastre. Va asteptam.

Hello again people. I've just seen that the first paid domain has entered the vineri triskaideka contest. This is kind of unexpected, as in my opinion, the vineri triskaideka prizes are way too little to deserve to buy a .com domain in order to get a better chance at the first place. Well, seems that somebody out there doesn't share my opinion.
Seems like the vineri triskaideka paid domain will be using Wordpress, but I don't know anything else regarding his website, or the person behind it.
Another thing I've seen is that the blog is hosted at DreamHost. I just hope the guy knows about the DreamHost & Google scandal, a while ago, when DreamHost banned G in most of their hosted websites, because of "server hammering", and because googlebot is putting a lot of load on their servers. Well that's just stupid.

Supplemental ?

Hello vineri triskaideka friends. This was a really great day for me, as it was the first Bacalaureat day for. I got an A ( a 10 for you romanian guys ) on the romanian oral exam, which is really great, as I didn't quite expect to get such a high grade.
Anyway, I got a little bit sad when I checked Google's datacenters when I got home. Seems like I'm now in the supplemental results. Ain't this fun ? Something else I've seen is that the supplemental cache date is 20 Jun 2007, which is before the page was even indexed in the regular index for vineri triskaideka.
Well, what can I say, I'm still waiting for the next 2 weeks for the exams to be over, and then for about another 2 weeks I'll take a deeper look into vineri triskaideka, as that's my free time from the bac until my exams for college. For now I'll just stick to posting.

First.. for a while

When I checked the datacenters this morning for some new vineri triskaideka rankings, I was happy to see that I was on the first place. The online radios guy was second, and a vineri triskaideka .com paid domain was on the third place. Last but not least the Luck ( goodluck ? :) ) vineri triskaideka page was forth ( I was kinda surprised to see that this Luck page has a link on Posesy's webpage, one of the organizers ).
Later this afternoon I was surprised to see that my page has vanished from the first page. I calmly checked the second page, then the third. Then , again calmly, I searched site:vineri-triskaideka-tupeu.blogspot.com. Again nothing. Ok, NOW it's time to PANIC.
Seems like I've overdone it with some stuff.. I mean damn, G didn't do this before when I tryed something similar with the chml srucnoc contest. Things have changed I guess.
So, for now I won't be doing very much for this vineri triskaideka blog, I'll just wait and see what's gonna happen.
